Boundaries Supporting Our Community Container (And Consumer Protection Issue)
PLUS: Community announcements (FSA Education Gift Certificates; new 'Scapegoat Hero' Etsy store, etc.,) and more Substack site navigation tips you won't want to miss!
In my work in the area of psycho-emotional ('invisible') abuse and related trauma, I support child victims and adult children survivors. I believe what victims and survivors tell me and give them the space to share their stories, free of judgment. Escaping the Gordian knot of family dysfunction and scapegoating abuse can seem impossible at times, particularly when abuse dynamics are insidious, invisible, and subtle. But it is not impossible to recover from the ravages of Family Scapegoating Abuse (FSA). How do I know? Because I don't just research on and teach others about this form of abuse: I'm an FSA adult survivor, too.

Boundaries Around Solicitation of FSA Education Subscribers
Every so often someone joins my Substack to take advantage of our subscriber base as a means of fulfilling their personal or professional agenda. As mentioned in a recent announcement, I have a ‘zero tolerance’ policy regarding our community base being exploited in this way and those on my Substack who engage in such behavior (including promoting their own ‘Family Scapegoating Abuse (FSA)’ group to our subscribers; soliciting donations for personal ventures, etc.,) will be immediately banned.
If you receive direct messages or see comments or posts on Substack that concern you, you can long press on the comment or message on the Substack mobile app or click on the three dots to the right of the comment or message on a browser and then click on ‘Report’ so that my moderation team (or the Substack content review team) can look into it.
Consumer Protection and the Term ‘Family Scapegoating Abuse’ (FSA)
Family Scapegoating Abuse (FSA) is a trademarked term that reflects 15-plus years of research efforts on my part. My FSA research is an extension of research done within the field of Family Systems for the past half century on the family ‘Identified Patient’ (IP). The term I coined describes a specific systemic phenomenon that can occur in dysfunctional and narcissistic family systems (most often psycho-emotional in nature but sometimes physical).
By requiring that permissions be granted for associating goods and services with the term Family Scapegoating Abuse (FSA), I have an opportunity to ensure that the planned content or group offerings(s) accurately reflect my research findings, thereby protecting consumers from distorted or erroneous interpretations of my work (I do not charge for the granted permissions).
You can learn more about my research efforts and my mission to bring international attention to this form of systemic psycho-emotional abuse by reading my article, Why Family Scapegoating Abuse (FSA) Merits Global Attention.
