FSA Education Sunday Digest
My latest article on the 'Narcissist' labeling trend; new 'About' page; how to access ALL paid subscriber features; free Complex Trauma worksheets - and more!
First, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new subscribers - We gained over 100 subscribers this past week and many of you came from recommendations from other Substack writers and end users here.
All Subscribers: Not receiving my Emails but would like my content delivered to your Inbox? If you are seeing my content on the Substack app but not receiving my content via email but would like to, go to your Substack profile via clicking on your profile image, then click Settings, and adjust your Notification preferences from there. You can also check your Spam, Promotions, and ‘All Mail’ folders - If you see that my emails are going there, move them into your Inbox so your email service knows where you want to receive them.
New ‘About’ Page for My Substack - Important information about the Family Scapegoating Abuse Education Substack you may have missed:
It’s been a bit of a whirlwind since launching this Substack site a few weeks ago, but I finally had time to create a more informative ‘About’ page discussing subscriber benefits.
If you’re a free subscriber, you may want to take a look at the benefits of becoming a paid subscriber if you are seeking a trauma-informed, private peer-support online space in which you can interact with me and other FSA adult survivor. I’ve included a video where I talk about the benefits of subscribing to my Substack, and include a much-appreciated recommendation my Substack just received from U.K. Psychologist and author of the Narcissist, Trauma, and Celebrity Substack, Dr. Simon Rogoff.
As a trauma-informed facilitator of this free Educational Substack with paid Community features, I hope to facilitate our co-creating an online environment that reduces nervous system activation and promotes recovery and healing as you engage with other survivors of family scapegoating abuse (FSA).
While it can feel temporarily satisfying to keep the focus on those who have caused us harm, online offerings aimed at abuse survivors that continuously activates their nervous system via highly charged content can move us beyond our Window of Tolerance when we have a history of relational trauma.
My hope is that this online space will be a place where your nervous system can settle down as we take a more thoughtful, trauma-informed approach toward healing from the effects of family scapegoating abuse and narcissistic family abuse. Learn more about the Window of Tolerance.
This new ‘About’ page is also a page link you can share with others if you think they might benefit from joining this online educational community as a free or paid subscriber.
Housekeeping Matters for Free and Paid Subscribers
Many of you are using the Substack Mobile App, which allows you to access my Substack and paid subscriber features like ‘Chat’ on-the-go. However, on the mobile app you do not have access to my Substack’s full menu, which means you more than likely have not been accessing all of the free and paid content available to you.
By visiting my Substack from a browser on a desktop, laptop, iPad, or Chromebook-type device, you can see the menu at the top of the page with paid features like Chat; Q & A With Rebecca and Ask the Community (a ‘Reddit’-type feature offering peer-support).
So next time you’re on a browser, visit the home page of my Substack and explore the many community features offered (you should see a page that looks like the one below - You’ll notice the menu at the top and some additional resources on the lower right in the side-bar):
Survey on Being Labeled a ‘Narcissist’ by Family: Speaking of using the app versus a browser: A few subscribers wrote to let me know that the survey I posted earlier this week for both free and paid subscribers on whether or not your family has labeled you as being “a narcissist” was taking you back to my home page and you couldn’t access the survey. Substack tech support is looking into this, but in the meantime, you can take this survey by accessing this Sunday Digest from a browser and then clicking on the button below.
PAID SUBSCRIBERS: Access ALL Chat Topic Threads to date: When you click into ‘Chat’ from my Substack’s main menu, you may not know that you need to scroll up to see all of the topic-based Group Chat threads posted to date. You can click on the button below to see all our topic-based threads and then scroll up to the top, where you’ll see the very first Chat thread I posted inviting new paid subscribers to introduce themselves.
Sunday Digest Recap
This Week's FSA Recovery Affirmation focused on the power of words, terms, and labels - and freeing ourselves from those that limit us and/or do not serve us in our healing and recovery journey. (Paid subscriber feature)
Author Julia Hubbel again kindly referenced me and my FSA work in her latest article, You and I Are Too Old Not to Speak Our Truth, a powerful (and empowering) article that I highly recommend to my subscribers here (you can subscribe to Julia’s Substack for free to read it).
All Subscribers - Free Trauma-Informed Worksheets: In case you missed it in last week’s Sunday Digest, I wanted to remind you that you can access free worksheets from Complex Trauma expert Dr. Janina Fisher (whom I did my advanced certification training with as a Complex Trauma Treatment Professional). Access her free worksheets, Soothing the Traumatized Brain.
Ask the Community - Have something to share that may help this subscriber? This week’s subscriber question (paid subscriber feature): Does anyone else hide losses / deaths from scapegoating family members?
New Feature - Q & A With Rebecca (paid subscribers): Visit this Q & A Chat thread where you can see other questions I’ve answered for subscribers about family scapegoating abuse (FSA) - including questions about content in my introductory book on FSA, Rejected, Shamed, and Blamed - or leave a question for me yourself! (Remember to scroll up to get to the top of the Chat thread.)
This Week’s Article (All Subscribers): In my article this week, What Happens When We Weaponize the Term ‘Narcissist’, I explore why adult survivors of relational abuse should approach the label of "narcissist" with caution, considering its impact on personal healing, relationships, and the broader narrative surrounding genuine psychological conditions. While all subscribers are welcome to comment publicly on this week’s article, paid subscribers may access a private Chat thread on this topic, included in the article. (Be sure to read the public comments - there are some insightful, thought-provoking responses to the article you wont’ want to miss).
