FSA Education Sunday Digest (Redux!)
June 23, 2024: Email receipt issues; reporting comments; 'Notes' & 'Restacks'; and links to all of the key posts you may have missed
Dear Subscribers,
I’m not sure why, but I woke up yesterday thinking it was Sunday and therefore released my Sunday Digest a day early! I’m re-posting it again in case anyone thought it was the digest / recap from last week. - Rebecca
This week’s Sunday Digest covers email receipt issues; reporting comments; 'Notes' & 'Restacks'; and links to all of the key posts you may have missed.
Welcome to all of our new subscribers! I’ve been enjoying getting to know some of you in our private Group Chat area (a paid subscriber feature) and hope to see more of you there over time.
Having a private place to connect - versus commenting publicly on my blog or my YouTube channel - was the top feature requested by my social media followers and this is now possible via the Group Chat area here and in our Discussion Threads, including the weekly ‘Ask the Community’ thread.
If you’re a free subscriber who values privacy when sharing on sensitive topics, you might consider upgrading your subscription for a month to try out our paid community features.
Not Receiving My Emails?
If you are seeing my content on the Substack app but not receiving my emails, you’ll want to ensure your Notification settings are set to receiving emails via your Substack Account Profile. To access your Notification settings, just click on your profile photo and then click on ‘Settings’ and you’ll see ‘Notifications’ and options for how you receive or are notified of new content from any Substacks you are subscribed to.
If, after checking your notification settings, it seems that you should be receiving my emails but aren’t, they typically can be found in the ‘Spam’; ‘Promotions'; or ‘All Mail’ folders. Once you find them, be sure to move them to your Inbox, which will help direct future emails from me to your Inbox in future.
Here’s some tips from Substack on how to move email in your Gmail; Apple Mail; or Yahoo account: Tips for readers on how to move emails
See a Comment That Concerns You?
Given that experiencing family scapegoating abuse (FSA) can be traumatizing and we are all in different places in our recovery and healing process, it is to be expected that community members will at times be wanting to share some of their more painful experiences with others who will understand.
If you find such comments ‘triggering’, you may want to skip over these and engage with other members on topics and discussions less activating to your nervous system.
As a reminder, community members are encouraged to share their experience, strength, and hope with each other, but are not expected to actively intervene or try to ‘fix’ or assist someone who is struggling, for this is legally and ethically beyond the scope of this community.
With that said, if you feel that someone is in grave distress and are concerned about them, you are encouraged to use the ‘Report’ feature available on comments via clicking on the three horizontal dots that will appear to the right of the comment when you hover over it.
You may also report comments that violate this Substack’s Terms of Use (hate comments, bigotry, etc), although my hope is this will not be necessary.
My intention is to censor comments as little as possible - ideally, not at all - but I will remove comments at times if it is clear that they are upsetting or confusing to a majority of our members.
Sharing Through Notes and Restacks
Did you know that anyone with a Substack account can use ‘Notes’ and ‘Restacks’ to share their favorite posts/articles and authors with others? ‘Notes’ are similar to ‘tweets’ and ‘restacks’ are similar to ‘retweeting’.
There’s several types of ‘Notes’ you can create, including ‘quotes’ from writers’ posts on Substack. You can restack someone else’s post on Substack with or without your own text. To restack, click the circle-arrow icon wherever you see a post, note, or comment worth sharing. I realize this can all be more than a little bit confusing, which is why I am linking you to a detailed guide from Substack on how to use Notes and Restacks here: Learn more about Notes and Restacks
Have a Topic Suggestion? Take the New (Paid) Subscriber Survey:
A few subscribers let me know that they had trouble with accessing the New Paid Subscriber Survey. I have adjusted the link and it should be working now. If you’re a paying subscriber, please take a few minutes to complete this survey so that I can adjust my offerings here to best serve the community’s needs. One of the questions I ask is what topics you’d like me to address in future FSA content (articles, videos, or Chat or Discussion threads) so don’t miss this opportunity to make your voice heard!
You can take the survey by clicking the buttons below.
