I'm sorry but it is still confusing to me. I use an iphone and I deleted the app, so only access by my browser. Often when I reply (and I'm already in a subthread) I lose my message. I try to go back to ensure I have it in the right location and it's gone. Only when someone reacts to my reply, do I see it. I have found the browser on my desktop also glitchy in that sense. I can reply in subthread and it opens one window, or reply on chat, and it looks like the same window but I only know I've tried either way when I try to sign out and I see double windows open and I cannot identify whether it was a creating a subthread reply or a standard reply to someone IN a subthread already. It is difficult to track whether I am in the original thread of comments or in a long subthread that I must back out of. tech is usually not this difficult for me, but it seems Substack's system is not typical use-friendly programming that I am familiar with and having the iphone app to start my journey with Substack did NOT help matters at all. So now I get notification emails, and cannot click on them from my iphone because Substack won't let me enter without taking me to the Iphone store to down load the app and I won't use the app. I can access via my iphone browser but Substack isn't programmed for that to work either because every reply is staggered to the right until it is off the screen and I cannot scroll from left to right to pick up the conversation. So my desktop browser is it, only.
I truly am attempting the comment according to the rules. But I find it beyond me at times. And I don't understand why. It's frustrating. I have written down your instructions for web browser and when already in a subthread and commenting on another, instructions say that I can tap on their message and react (emoji) or reply. I am certain that I am doing that, but I saw a message replying to a comment of mine today where it seems like I have not been doing that. ack!!
I'm so sorry, Ki. It does indeed sound like a glitch. I haven't had anyone report this before. Would it help if you do not do subthreads and just did a regular reply? I wouldn't mind, and I'm sure our community wouldn't either. You can also email substack support direct at substack@support.com to see if they can figure out what might be going on. Another option would be to reinstall the substack mobile app and use that for chat, and use a browser on another device to access my full substack site - if you have a 2nd device, that is. Also, did you already clear the cookies / cache from your device after uninstalling the substack app - or any other device you are using? Old cookies or cache issues can lead to glitches.
my cookies and cache clear every 3 months on my desktop browser. On an iphone, I uninstalled completely the Substack app and I don't believe there is anywhere I can go in a clear cookies/cache on an iphone, other than shutting down and turning on (which I do regularly). I have tried to report to substack support directly several times on similar issues since we discussed this, with absolutely no response. I am a loss to really understand why I can't seem to "get it" when others are. I can't explain it. Its become detrimental to my even commenting, so I may need to take a tech break for a few days. It seems to trigger me in the category: "I do everything best I can according to instructions, but it always was wrong, misunderstood, misrepresented" (judgement and feeling stupid which was the total point with FSA)
Ugh, I am so sorry. It is possible that if you reinstall the app, it will work okay - they have done a lot of updates recently. It might be worth one last shot.
Thank you for helping and your kindness. I will give it a try in the next few days. I am getting a new printer that is just a printer not with their own access online and keeping track of my ink with also access to holding my documents in their cloud. Wth? Anybody want a fairly new HP printer? It’s going. I’ve had it disconnected and turned off for two weeks.
So thorough Ms. Rebecca Ty !! Great tools with such granular transparency - makes it all easier to navigate and consume - munch munch munch Namaste Mo
